Govt to deport 11,000 illegal foreigners

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Hoque briefing the media on Thursday (Nov 7).The Bangladesh government has taken initiatives to deport 11,000 illegal foreigners to their own countries.
The decision was taken during a cabinet committee meeting on Thursday (Nov 7).
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, while briefing the media after the meeting said that many foreigners are doing business in Bangladesh.
“Many are getting involved in crime. Many of them are in jail and their terms have ended,” he said.
“There are many who are illegally staying in the country after the visa expired. There are around 11,000 foreign citizen who we will deport,” he added.
He said that they are getting involved in crime and doing business illegally. Moreover, their embassies are not doing anything to take them back.
Meanwhile, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Hoque said that there are many countries that don’t have embassies and those who so have aren’t taking any steps.
“Our intelligence agencies have already marked them. But they don’t even have money to go back,” he told the media.
Saying that nationals of Africa, Nigeria, Tanzanian nationals are amongst the illegal foreigners, he added that they will ask the government to allocate funds and send them back.
