The National Taskforce on Rohingya is going to have its next meeting in Cox’s Bazar to discuss the current situation and find out the next course of action about repatriation of the displaced people.
They will consider inclusion of Chinese involvement in Rohingya repatriation process and relocation to Bhashanchar when the body will sit in the district on November 5 and 6.
“Repatriation is our topmost priority but before happening that, there is a need to improve situation in Rakhine,” said a senior government official.
China has already joined the effort and a tripartite operational level meeting among Bangladesh, China and Myanmar has already been held to move it forward, he said.
“The main problem is Myanmar is reluctant to take back the Rohingyas and we need to mobilize international pressure to make it happen,” he added.
Another official said, “The more pressure we can mobilize, the more resources Myanmar needs to withhold it.”
About the situation in Cox’s Bazar, he said, “After two years of the mass exodus, the situation is much improved in the camps.”
Now the Rohingyas have food, shelter and health support and there is a need to synchronise the operations with the UN bodies and other NGOs to make it more smooth, he added.
Security is another aspect that the meeting will discuss as drug and human traffickers are active in the area, the official said.
“We have deployed security forces to avoid any untoward situation,” he added.
