Justice catches up with nine war criminals in Muktagacha

International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh)

International Crimes Tribunal has framed charges against Md. Abdus Salam, 75 on Muktagacha in Mymensingh plus eight others for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.

Tribunal has fixed 11 September next for taking evidence. Of the accused nine, seven are in prison. The arrested are: Md. Abdus Salam, 75, Suruj Ali Fakir, 62, md. Joen Uddin, 60, md. Abdur Rahim, 67, Md Jalal Uddin, 59, Sahmsher Fakir, 66 and Md Rustom Ali, 70.

Fazlul Huq, 59 and Shamsul Huq, 70 are in hiding.

On Sunday, three member tribunal led by justice Shahinur Islam gave the order to frame the charges.

Abul Kalam Azad was present on behalf of prosecution while advocates Abdus Sobhan and Gazi Tamim represented the accused.

Earlier, on 19 June, 2017, the formal charges were presented and after hearing, the order was given to frame charges.

In the probe report, the nine are accused of committing eight counts of human rights violations, including, killing 101 persons, rape, arson, torture and mass murder.
