India to extend hand to resolve Rohingya issue: Kamal

He was talking with the media after holding a formal meeting with his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh in Dhaka Sunday.
He said, “Our Foreign Minister is engaging with the Indian Foreign Minister on the issue. We told them Rohingyas are problem to us. We have shown generosity and it was appreciated by the prime minister.”
In reply they said, they would help us in resolving the issue. They will cooperate how to rehabilitate the Rohingyas who came to Bangladesh, Kamal said.
Earlier, just after the meeting, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh said he had a productive meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
He said, “We don’t have any problem at the border. We discussed many issues including border related ones.”
The meeting started at 10:30am and continued for one and half hour where Kamal led the Bangladesh side while Rajnath led the Indian side. The last Bangladesh-India home minister meeting was held in New Delhi in 2016.
Rajnath came to Dhaka on Jul 13 and paid a courtesy call on with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He also inaugurated new visa centre at the Jamuna Future Park and went to Rajshahi to visit Sardah Police Academy.
During his trip, a revision was made to Bangladesh-India Revised Travel Arrangement and a memorandum of understanding on police cooperation was signed in Rajshahi.
Earleir, on Thursday Rajnath Singh in Rajshahi said Dhaka and New Delhi joined hands to fight the forces of instability and terrorism.
“While our partnership brings prosperity to our people, it also works to protect them from forces of redicalisation and extremism,” he told a function, marking the opening of Bangladesh-India Friendship Building at the academy.
Officials said the building or “Maitreyee Bhaban” was built at a cost of around Taka 11 crore under Indian grant.
They said coinciding with the event the BPA and Sarder Ballabbhai Patel National Police Academy (SBNPA) in Hyderabad of India also signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC).
Home Minister of Bangladesh Asaduzzaman Khan, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Home Secretary Mostofa Kamal Uddin, Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Dr Javed Patwary, Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh Major General Md Shafeenul Islam and High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla were present on the occasion.
Rajnath Singh said the friendship building will help us to further foster our bilateral security and cooperation.
The building includes state-of-the art forensic laboratory, mock crime scenes, mock police station and IT centre with computer lab to impart training to Bangladesh police force.
“Our bilateral cooperation is based on mutuality of interests and a win-win formula for both countries,” he mentioned.
Asaduzzaman Khan said the Indian support and initiative will further boost up the bilateral relations of the two countries.
