Researchers at the University of Dhaka have found presence of antibiotics in pasteurised milk of seven widely sold brands of five companies and three samples of loose milk available in the market.
A group of teachers at the Pharmacy Faculty conducted the tests on samples of these products for the second time, Biomedical Research Centre former director and pharmaceutical technology teacher Professor ABM Faroque said in a statement on Saturday (Jul 13).
“Three kinds of antibiotics were found in the first phase of the tests but this time we found four,” he said in the statement.
He said that this time they found unsafe levels of Oxytetracycline, Enrofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin in the samples.
“In the 10 samples that were tested, four antibiotics were found in three samples, three antibiotics in six samples and two antibiotics in one sample,” he said.
The statement said that they will conduct more such tests and hoped that the companies will try to maintain quality of their products.
