Daily commute costlier during Ramadan in Dhaka: Study

As many as 97 percent of the buses shift to ‘seating services’ during rush hours (3pm to 6pm) and charge extra fairs, rights body, Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity said in a statement on Saturday (May 18).
It said CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the capital do not charge passengers by the metre rather three to four times the fare.
Ninety-three percent of the three-wheeler drivers refused to carry passengers to their destination, according to the rights body.
Citing spot visits during the study, it said that taxi cabs were not found for hours at the most of the city’s busiest points including Kamalapur, Magbazar, Gulistan, Sayedabad, Jatrabari, Shahbagh, Farmgate, Mirpur-10, Mohakhali, Dhanmondi, Banani, and Baridhara.
