Defending the Supreme Court’s recent statement over reporting on court matters, Law Minister Anisul Huq has said that media cannot run reports with personal opinion about sub judice matters.

"Media reports with personal opinion about pending matters have been barred by the top court, not overall reporting," he said on Saturday (May 18).

According to him, the statement was made for “only judicial purposes not to stop reporting”.

“What they [top court judges] said a report on a pending matter may influence the judgment,” said Huq.

Speaking at an event at the Supreme Court Bar Association buildings, he said that the executive branch would provide “all kind of necessary support to the judiciary”.
