Electronic health cards soon: treatment cost to fall

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim was addresing at Parliamemt on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.Government is working to maintain electronic health records of its citizens, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim. In a question-answer session at parliament on Tuesday, he said, “Government will issue a data-based ‘lifetime share’ portable electronic health card for every citizen.”
“The government has taken plans to issue the card based on National Identity Card (NID).”
The health card will contain lifetime health of a citizen, allowing seamless monitoring of citizens’ health condition.
“Physicians will be able to give treatment by taking information from the health card, which will reduce treatment cost,” he added.
In another question-answer statement, Health Minister said, “At present, the government bears the cost at Tk 76374 for every patient, in a year, and Tk 125 for food per day.”
Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) data states that there are 87,321 registered physicians and 8515 registered BDS doctors in the country; among them, 28,741 are specialist physicians.
