Additional Inspector General of Police Rowshan Ara Begum has been killed in a road accident at Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The incident was reported around 6.30pm (Congo local time) on Sunday (May 5), Additional IGP of police, Shohel Rana, of police headquarters (media and public relations), told Bangla Tribune early on Monday (May 6).
She was appointed to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Congo.
The vehicle carrying Rowshan Ara and superintendent of police, Farzana was hit by a truck, leaving Rowshan dead on the spot. Farzana and the driver were critically injured in the incident and have been admitted to hospital, said Rana.
Rowshan Ara began her career in the police force in February, 1988 and served in various capacities, including Assistant Police Commissioner of the Accounts Section, Reserve Office, Traffic Division and Training Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
