National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque was speaking to the media after visiting the Dhaka Medical College morgue to see the dead body of Nusrat on Thursday (Apr 11). BANGLA TRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainChairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Kazi Reazul Hoque said that People are not getting justice.
He made the comment after visiting the Dhaka Medical College morgue to see the dead body of Nusrat, who succumbed to her burn injuries after being reportedly set ablaze by a madrasa principal.
The rise of sexual abuse on children and women is a sad indictment of society, he said, adding, “People are living in constant fear.”
Unfortunately, we cannot see the proper implementation of law; people are not getting justice which is emboldening the criminals, commented Hoque.
There is a specific court directive that strict law has to be enacted to tackle sexual harassment, trial has to be done swiftly, criminals need to be punished, but we have not been able to do this as yet, he deplored.
“It’s disheartening to see that the man accused of killing Nusrat did not show any remorse while being taken to remand.”
Calling Nusrat a protesting human being, he added: “She did not capitulate to sexual abuse; we must christen today as Nusrat Day.
Underlining the police behavior towards Nusrat, which has been termed reprehensible by most, he said: this issue needs to be investigated; the OC of the thana has been withdrawn but the allegations against the OC need to be investigated and the right punishment meted out.”
