talking to the media on Wednesday (Apr 10) after visiting the Feni Madrasa student at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Burn Unit. The Feni madrasa student who was set on fire on Apr 6 is in no condition to be airlifted abroad, said State Minister for Health Dr Murad Hasan.

“Considering this, she can’t be flown to Singapore yet,” he told the media on Wednesday (Apr 10) after visiting the victim at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Burn Unit.

Saying that she will be taken abroad for advanced medical care, he added, “The student has sustained 80 percent burn injuries.”

He said that the prime minister was being updated about her situation continuously and the physicians here were in touch with doctors in Singapore.

Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit Coordinator Samanta Lal said that they spoke to the Singapore doctors over video call on Wednesday.

“They asked for some necessary papers which we have already sent,” he said.

“We operated on her yesterday to make sure that she can breathe,” he said and added that the holes in her skin were preventing her from breathing properly.

“Her condition is as it was yesterday. We’ll take further steps after news from Singapore,” Lal said.

The 18-year-old student was set on fire after she went to Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa to sit for her Alim examinations for allegedly refusing to withdraw charges of sexual assault against the madrasa principal.

The girl is currently battling critical burn injuries at DMCH.
