Muslims in Bangladesh are set to celebrate Shab-e-Barat on the night of Apr 21, with a public holiday the next day.
The National Moon-Sighting Committee announced the decision on Saturday (Apr 6).
As the moon of Shaban was not sighted, the month of Rajab will end on Sunday on completion of 30 days and the holy Shaban month will begin on Monday.
The committee sat at the Islamic Foundation with Sheikh Md Abdullah, Minister of State for Religious Affairs, in the chair.
The Shab-e-Barat festival is celebrated 15 days before the start of the Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims across the world.
Besides offering prayers overnight, Muslims in Bangladesh cook and exchange food, and distribute meals of bread and Halua among the poor.
