FILE PHOTOAfter a spell of local government election in party lines, the government is likely to drop the use of political parties’ logos in polls, a cabinet member confirmed Bangla Tribune.
“It’s confirmed that party symbols will not be used anymore. It’s yet to be official but decided,” the minister said on Saturday (Apr 6) asking not to be named.
The Awami League administration, in 2015, amended five laws over polls to union, Upazila and district councils, municipalities and city corporations to hold the elections to the local bodies in party lines.
The new system was introduced with elections to mayors of the city corporations and municipalities, who contested with party logos and was gradually expanded to the Union Parishad elections as well as to the ongoing Upazila polls.
