Gano Forum MP-elect Mokabbir Khan will be sworn in as the Sylhet-2 lawmaker on Tuesday (Apr 2), says the Parliament Secretariat.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will administer the oath-taking ceremony at her office scheduled for 12pm, according to a statement sent to the media on Monday (Apr1).
Earlier in the day, Mokabbir confirmed that he has written to Speaker wishing to be sworn in on Apr 2 or Apr 3.
The letter was sent following the green light of Gano Forum’s leadership, he said.
In the Dec 30 polls, Mukabbir was elected from the Sylhet-2 seat on the ticket of the Jatiya Oikya Front.
He, however, had backtracked on his decision to take oath as an MP on Mar 7, when Gano Forum, other MP-elect Sultan Md Mansur Ahmed from Moulvibazar-2 remained firm to be sworn in.
He took his oath of office in parliament in defiance of the coalition’s decision against it. Mansur won the seat under the ‘paddy sheaf’ symbol.
Later, the Gano Forum expelled Mansur from the party.
