Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain’s protocol officers allegedly got into arguments with airport security for asking him to take off his coat as part of the security protocol.
The incident was reported from Hazrat Shahjalal Airport's domestic terminal on Wednesday (Mar 27).
Sources said that the chief justice, accompanied by three protocol officers, was on his way to board a Novo Air flight to Jashore at 8 am when he was asked to take off his coat and put it through the scanning machines.
Chief Justice Mahmud was about to take it off when his protocol officers stepped in after which the procedure was speeded up and he boarded his flight.
After the flight left, the protocol officers allegedly got into a heated argument with aviation security.
At one point, one of the protocol officers allegedly manhandled an assistant superintendent of police.
A top-level security officer, wishing anonymity, said that the incident was “embarrassing” for them.
“The honourable chief justice’s protocol officers misbehaved with the airport security after he left, which is unacceptable,” he said.
He said that everyone other than the president and prime minister has to go through security before leaving the country.
“Hence, the chief justice was asked to take off his coat and he didn’t object to it,” he said.
However, High Court official (protocol) Waris told Bangla Tribune that they had objected but didn’t misbehave with the security.
