Women workers from Bangladesh experience harassment from the day one in Saudi Arabia as their Saudi employers treat them as slaves.
Majeda Begum, a victim who just returned from Saudi Arabia describing her ordeal said, “Many fall seriously sick as they don’t get adequate food. I know a good number of women who are being harassed for the last two years. Please, save them.”
Hailed from Baniarchit under Shakhipur upazila in Tangail, she was sent to Saudi Arabia by BA Associates, a recruiting agency in Bangladesh.
Narrating her horrific experience, she said, “Upon my arrival in Saudi Arabia, I was taken to a house where I found several ladies with wounds. At night, they were taken outside the rooms and if anybody refused, she was beaten like dogs. The crooks told us that they had bought the ladies.”
It is better to beg in Bangladesh than go abroad, she said adding, “Women should not go abroad.”Local broker and former union parishad member Syful Islam took Tk 60,000 from Majeda and sent her to Saudi Arabia through BA Associates last month, said her relatives.
There she was tortured and harassed for ransom and when Syful was told about it, he demanded one lakh sixty thousand taka for her return.
Majeda’s daughter Shampa recently contacted with Bangla Tribune office and upon instruction its Tangail correspondent went to her house to collect information.
Majeda returned home after Bangla Tribune contacted with BA Associates and Syful.
Majeda said, “On 23 May, a person took me to airport and gave me my documents. I boarded plane and arrived in Bangladesh the next day morning. I did not have any money but, I came home as a kind man gave me some money.”
She thanked Bangla Tribune for helping her to come back home.
