There have been reports of irregularities at all women halls leaving Shamsunnahar Hall. The complaints include: not showing the ballot box before voting, creating a long queue, preventing media and candidates from entering the hall.
Voters and candidate claim that the worst conditions are in Rokeya, Sufia Kamal and Kuwait Friendship Hall.
At Rokeya Hall, the provost did not show an empty ballot box to journalists and candidates; therefore, voting began one hour later.
A long line was seen at the Sufia Kamal Hall. Candidates say that the line is long since people are not allowed to enter the gate.
Earlier, faced with accusations of rigging, voting was suspended at the Kuwait Friendship Hall. After a delay, voting began at 11:10 am which will run till 5:10 pm, said chief returning officer, S M Mahfuzur Rahman.
At the Kuwait Friendship Hall, a sack of marked votes was discovered from a locked room.
Commenting on voting at the women’s halls, Chhatra Dal’s VP candidate, Mostafizur Rahman, says: “voters are facing obstacles everywhere and, in some halls, candidates cannot enter.”
Dhaka University Chhatra League president, Sanjib Chandra Das, refutes these allegations, saying: “we condemn the irregularities and request punitive measures against those responsible.”
