The Election Commission (EC) employees themselves will be responsible for carrying out all the elections in the future, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.
“Many EC officials have been given the responsibility of the Upazila polls in addition to the election administration officers,” he said on Monday (Mar 8) during the training of election officials.
“The officers of the commission will have to ensure that the polls are free, fair and credible,” he said and added that they have to carry out their duties with utmost sincerity to ensure that the elections are not questionable.
Addressing the election officials present there, Huda said, “Most of you who are present here have been given the responsibility of returning and assistant returning officer for the third phase of the Upazila polls.
“If you’re able to administer the polls with thoroughness, influence-free election, all future will be responsibilities will be handed over to you.”
He said that the administration employees are only under the commission temporarily and it becomes difficult to make negotiations with them after the polls as they go back to their respective duties.
“If the commission’s own employees take charge of carrying out the polls, there will be more accountability,” added.
