Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina has prohibited Awami leaders to give any political statement on the issue regarding Chief Justice. She has said, ‘The issue is concerned with the judiciary. They are taking working on it. So, it is better not to give political speeches on this issue.’
Sheikh Hasina gave this instruction at a meeting of Awami League’s Advisory Council and Central Working Committee. Several leaders who were present at the meeting have confirmed this information. In that meeting, discussion on proposals regarding dialogue with the Election Commission (EC) was also held.
Sources said, at the meeting at Gonobhaban, one member of the Advisory Council gave a proposal to relax the clause of RPO in case of university teachers that bars the bureaucrats and government officials to participate in the national election within 3 years of retirement; so that they can participate in the election. In reply to this proposal, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘The provision regarding the participation of the bureaucrats in the election is an outcome of Awami League’s movement. It will not be right for us to give proposals to amend this article.’
She said, ‘BNP started their politics first with the government officials. It started the tendency of lackeying of the government among the officials of the republic. We brought back the officials of the republic from that state.’
Sources from the meeting said that when Mukul Bose, a member of the Advisory Council asked whether the China Tour of Awami League will create any distance with India, PM replied, ‘We do believe in the foreign policy of Bangabandhu’
Sheikh Hasina told the party leaders and MPs, ‘It is necessary to enhance attachment with the people. People do not remember happiness or development for a long time. Without enhancing the communication with the people, it will not be possible to increase the vote bank.’
