The official results of the Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral by-polls have been announced.
Returning Officer made the announcement on Friday (Mar 1) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
“We can provide the local government with the gazette notification next week,” he said.
He added that those candidates who couldn’t be present during the announcement can collect the results from the Election Commission.
Ruling Awami Leader pick Atiqul Islam bagged a landslide victory with 8,49,302 votes.
Of the other three candidates, independent Md. Anisur Rahman Dewan with symbol mango got 6,151, Md Abdul Rahim with table clock 8,404 votes, PDP’s Shahin Khan with tiger symbol, 5,821 votes.
There were a total of 3.04 million voters.
Voting took place from 8am till 4pm on Thursday (Feb 28) and there were comparatively more voters in areas where new ward councilors were elected.
BNP and her allies boycotted the city corporation election.
The mayoral post fell vacant after former mayor Annisul Huq passed away on November 30, 2017.
