While RAB has confirmed that the killed plane hijacker’s name is Polash Ahmed, the confusion as to whether the gun he was carrying was real or a toy, persists.
To find out the truth, Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Ministry of Civil Aviation have made separate probe committees which will submit reports within five days.
While talking to the media, secretary of Biman, Mohibul Huq, said, “We are not certain if the weapon is a toy or real; details will be shared once we get the investigation report.”
Civil aviation chairman, M Nayeem Hossain, said, “After everyone was evacuated, the hijacker was alone in the craft and if gun fire was exchanged then there would have been a sign.”
We did not find any sign of fires being exchanged.
Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority, Air Vice Marshal Nayeem Hassan, said, “The so called hijacker has a pistol and wires attached to his body.”
Meanwhile, GOC of 24 infantry, Major General SM Motiur Rahman, said, “We managed to neutralize the crisis within eight minutes; commandos asked the hijacker to surrender but he refused and tried to attack; he had a pistol with him.”
However, on Sunday (Feb 24) night, Chattogram police commissioner Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, said, “The pistol was a toy gun.”
On Sunday (Feb 24), the Biman flight BG 147 was supposed to leave Dhaka for Dubai via Chattogram. But after take-off, it was overtaken by a hijacker and, at 5.40 pm, the plane made an emergency landing at Chattogram. The plane had 134 passengers and 14 crew members.
