Another victim of the Chawkbazar fire has succumbed to his injuries after six days of treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), taking the death toll to 69.
The deceased is 20-year-old Sohag who died at 1am on Tuesday (Feb 26), DMCH police camp Inspector Baccu Mia told Bangla Tribune.
The body has been kept at the hospital for autopsy, he added.
Shohag, who was in critical condition, was among the 41 people who were admitted at DMCH for burn injuries.
The Feb 20 fire that ripped through Chawkbazar’s Churihatti intersection killed 67 people that day.
Until Monday (Feb 25) the death toll of the fire was 68 with the death of one Anwar, who was in critical condition.
At least 19 bodies that have been burned beyond recognition are yet to be identified.
The Criminal Investigation Department has collected DNA samples from families to identify those bodies.
