Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken stringent security measures to ensure peaceful observation of Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day on Feb 21.
A 16,000 strong force will be deployed in the capital with a 4-tire security arrangement at the Central Shaheed Minar to ensure peoples’ safety, DMP Comissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told the media on Tuesday (Feb 19).
Of the 16,000 police personnel, 6,000 will be deployed at the Central Shaheed Minar, said the DMP chief.
“Other than that, there will be detectives, plainclothes police, members of SWAT and Bomb Disposal Unit, dog squads to tackle any situation,” added Mia.
Assuring the city dwellers that there is no security threat, the commissioner said, “The DMP has arranged a four-tier security to ensure people’s safet and CCTV cameras will also be set up at the key points in and around the Shaheed MInar area.
“No outsiders will be allowed in the Dhaka University (DU) area from 6:00pm Feb 20, he said before adding that Police check posts will be set up in and around the area.
The DMP chief also said that only vehicles with stickers will be allowed to enter the area.
