FACEBOOK/Ashraf SiddiqueeAfter forming the government for a third straight term, Awami League chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sought cooperation from people of all walks of lives for building a Bangladesh free of corruption and poverty.
“Let us dedicate the present for the future of the country,” she said while addressing the Awami League’s victory rally on Saturday (Jan 19) at Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan.

The Awami League formed its third consecutive government after winning 258 seats in the Dec 30 general election. Sheikh Hasina became prime minister for a fourth term.
The people exercised their franchise spontaneously after a long time, Hasina said before expressing her gratitude for electing the Awami League in the Dec 30 polls.
She also thanked law enforcement agencies for ensuring the atmosphere for a fair election, and the Election Commission for administering a free and fair election.
The prime minister also thanked all the political parties which fielded candidates.
Hasina said she has nothing to lose and dedicated her life for the people of the country.
“As a political activist, I constantly ask myself what I have done for the welfare of the people,” the prime minister said before adding that her government will work for all, irrespective of political affiliations.

Though the rally at Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan was scheduled for 2:30 pm, the location filled with Awami League leaders and activists chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans since the morning.
A victory stage festooned with banners had been prepared for the event.

Hasina reminded the party supporters that earning victory is way easier than protecting it while it was tough as well to serve the people after winning the polls.

“(But) I will try to value the peoples’ confidence even at the cost of my life,” she said.
The people want peace and a continued journey towards prosperity and that’s why they chose the Awami League as “we are committed to achieve the cherished goal”, said the party president.
Hasina said her government wanted to build a modern digital society with people having adequate knowledge on science and technology and their support for the government in the elections reflected their will to expedite the process of building a digital Bangladesh.
The Dec 30 election was actually the people’s mandate in favour of the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War, which meant there was no room for war criminals, anti-liberation forces and those who indulge in militancy, drug and corruption.
“People have given their verdict to build Bangladesh with the spirit of the War of Liberation. And it’s our firm pledge to build Bangladesh as a hunger and poverty free nation with the spirit of the War of Liberation,” she said.
