Vehicular movement in Dhaka has come to a standstill despite the police’s restriction on traffic over the ruling Awami League’s victory rally on Saturday (Jan 19).
AL held a rally at the city’s Suhrawardy Udyan with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the chief guest to celebrate its landslide victory in the 11th Parliamentary Election.
Movement of public transport was thin causing miseries to the commuters.
Shahna Akter waited for nearly a half hour at Firmgate to get on a BRTC bus.
“No bus is on the street without any prior announcement,” she said before claiming that city dwellers are getting used to such ‘harassment’.It took at least 45 minutes to cross the traffic signal from Fiirmgate to Karwan Bazar.
On spot visits, long queues of vehicles were seen at all points of Bangla Motor intersection.
One commuter, Al Amin took a rickshaw ride to Bangla Motor, which he left on the halfway.
“Traffic has turned into a horror today,” he said.People were seen walking at different places due to less number of public transports.
“Sufferings are relatively low as today is Saturday,” said Rahmat Mia, who came to Karwan Bazar from Mirpur.
He, however, insisted on a prior announcement on the restriction of plying public transport.
