BNP’s Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan has won the election for the Brahmabaria-2 parliamentary seat following fresh voting three polling stations.
The Jatiya Oikya Front candidate bagged 83,994 votes in 132 centres with the party’s ‘paddy sheaf’ symbol, according to results announced after the re-voting on Wednesday (Jan 9).
Voting at the centers of Ashuganj Upazila’s Jatrapur Government Primary School, Bahadurpur Government Primary School and Sohagpur South Government Primary School were suspended by the Election Commission due to polls-related violence and irregularities on Dec 30, when the 11th parliamentary election was held in 299 out of 300 constituencies.
Sattar’s nearest rival independent candidate Md Moin Uddin got 75,419 with ‘banana’ symbol, Assistant Returning Officer and Ashuganj Upazila administration chief (UNO) Mousimi Bain Heera said.
According to the results of the 129 centres in the constituency on Dec 30, Sattar won 82,723 votes and Moin 72,564 votes.
Local BNP leader Sattar has been elected from the seat, which comprises of the Sarail and Ashuganj Upazilas, for the fifth time.
His win has taken the number of seats won by the BNP in the elections to six. Two Gano Forum candidates in the Jatiya Oikya Front have also won the elections.
