Bangladesh has strongly protested reports published in Myanmar media that Arsa and Arakan Army are being operated from the country.

“Bangladesh is utterly disappointed and aggrieved to note some media reports based on remarks by the Spokesperson of Myanmar President’s Office on Jan 7 2019 alleging existence of two Arakan Army bases and  three ARSA bases in Bangladesh,” said a foreign ministry press release.

The allegations are false and baseless and it is not possible to operate terrorist base anywhere in Bangladesh due to zero t0olerance policy towards terrorism, the release said.

Bangladesh has effective counter-terrorism mechanism with neighbouring countries and it offered similar cooperation with Myanmar but, they did not respond.

“Bangladesh on several instances proposed Myanmar to conduct joint operation in addressing claimed terrorist activities along the border area. But unfortunately, not much enthusiasm received from the Myanmar side.”

The current clashes are outcome of Myanmar’s domestic political and social dilemma.

“It will be highly appreciated by the Government of Bangladesh if Myanmar government does not make any endeavour to associate Bangladesh with her internal domestic puzzle.”
