The Election Commission has introduced the EVM for the first time in the national election. Under a pilot project, voters can cast their franchise in six constituencies out of 300.

Dhaka-6 and Dhaka-13 are the two constituencies in the capital where it has been introduced.

Early in the morning, people were seen standing outside different centres in Dhaka-13 constituencies.

At Children Academy centre, they set up seven booths and voters are smoothly entering the compound and casting their votes.

The assistant presiding officers are guiding them who don’t have knowledge about the newly introduced system.

Presiding Officer of Greenwood Centre of the same constituency Ujjal Saha told Bangla Tribune that voting is going on smoothly since morning.

The security situation is satisfactory, he said.

“It is easier than I thought. We don’t need to stand in the queue for long time,” he said.

Presiding Officer of Residential Model College Nayeb Ali Sharif said, the turnout is thin due to cold weather.

We expect better turnout in the coming hours, he said.

One Assistant Presiding Officer at the centre informed that it takes less than a minute to cast vote if the fingerprint matches first time.

Residential Model is only women centre where the total voters are 3,214.

Septuagenarian Maymunnesa told Bangla Tribune, “This is a good system and tech-friendly.”

Another senior voter Jahanara said, “This system is better than the previous one.”
