The council for the ruling Awami League’s student front, the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), will be held at Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan on May 11 and 12.
At a news conference on Wednesday, its President Saifur Rahman Sohag said the 29th National Council will be the “best event in BCL’s history”.
“The meritorious, hard-working and tested activists will be chosen for the leadership through the council,” he said.
He, however, evaded a direct answer when asked whether the leadership will be elected or nominated.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the guardian of BCL and everything will happen according to her instructions.”
Speaking at the media briefing, General Secretary Zakir Hossain credited the incumbent leadership’s achievements to all the activists.
“…while me and the president are responsible for all the failures. We will do our best for a successful council.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate of the two-day council on the afternoon of May 11, the media briefing was told.
