Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed was addressing an event on Candidate Information Management System (CIMS) and Result Management System (RMS) trainings on Wednesday (Dec 19). FOCUS BANGLAElection Commissioner (EC) Helaluddin Ahmed said that the internet will be slowed down till 5 pm on Dec 30 as per the instruction of law enforcing and intelligence agencies.

His remarks came during a training session of Election Management System (EMS), Candidate Information Management System (CIMS) and Result Management System (RMS) on Wednesday (Dec 19) at the EC headquarters.

Ahmed inquired the trainees present there if the decreased speed will in any way affect the announcement of the polls result, to which they replied in the affirmative.

"In that case, I don't think there will be a problem if the internet speed is restored to full speed after five,"  Ahmed said after he was assured that slow internet before 5 pm will not affect the polls result announcement in any way.

The EC further said that the commission is currently busy with many directives coming from High Court over the issue of election nomination. "As a result, complications are arising over the printing of ballot papers."

"Even Hero Alam speaks triumphantly over his successful court proceedings against initial nomination cancellation," he said.

“Candidates for many seats have not been finalized as yet, once that is done we will print ballot papers.”
He said that the commission wants the ballot papers to reach all areas seven days prior to election, he added.
Saying that arranging election for 300 seats in a daunting task, he added, “We want to ensure a free, fair, disciplined election.”
"I have worked as returning officer, magistrate but never saw such a Herculean arrangement as yet," the EC  secretary admitted.
