New policies for disabled people are being designed in job sectors even though the quota system has been scrapped, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“New policies are being designed for the development of people with disabilities and minority and disadvantaged ethnic groups even though the quota system has been scrapped,” she told the media on Monday (Nov 3) during a program on the occasion of International Day of Disabled Persons at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center.
She added that initiatives are being taken to make the transport system friendlier for people with disabilities in order to ease their commute.
“Approximately 1.6 million disabled people are getting government allowance. Soon they will be sent their allowance through mobile phones,” said Hasina.
The government is trying heart and soul to change people’s perspective about disabled people, the head of the State said.
“Awareness is being spread in the most remote areas through mobile vans and work to provide maximum support for them is underway.”
The three-time prime minister has called for people to engage the special needs people in sports and various creative fields for the development of the country.
