The Cabinet has approved the draft of the amendment to Representation of the People Order (RPO) paving the way for use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the national elections.
The approval came after a meeting of the Cabinet was held at the Secretariat on Monday (Oct 29) with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, accompanied by Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed, briefed the media after the meeting.
Alam said, “Amendment of the RPO will be made through an ordinance issued the president as the House ended its sessions.”
Replying a journalist’s query Ahmed said the Commission is yet to finalise the number of polling stations to use the EVMs in the next general elections.
