Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has told party leaders and activists to highlight the government’s development initiatives in their native areas.
Her instruction came on Wednesday when she exchanged greetings with people from all walks of lives at the Ganabhaban.
“We will assume office again if the people are happy and vote for us, but no regrets if they don’t. We serve for the people,” the ruling Awami League president said.She urged the people of the country to pray for the victims of Aug 15 Bangabandhu assassination and the Aug 21 grenade attack.
"It’s our duty to serve you; let the Eid bring all the joy and happiness to you all. You know what we lost on August 15, 1975, and August 21, 2004. Only we two sisters are alive … we’ve been working hard keeping all the pain in our hearts for you so that you can celebrate your festivals in a befitting way," she said.The Ganabhaban entrance was opened to visitors at 9.30am when people from all walks of life started returning after the prayers and waited in a long queue to meet the greet the premier.
In the beginning, senior Awami League leaders and cabinet members greeted Hasina.Leaders of different political parties, parliament members, freedom fighters, leaders of associate bodies of Awami League, different professional and trade bodies as well as cross-section of people, including destitute, exchanged Eid greetings with the prime minister.
Addressing party leaders and supporters, she said, “Rather than raising slogans here, go to your native areas. The people need to know what we have done for them.”
Later, the premier exchanged greetings with Supreme Court judges, senior civil and military officials and diplomats.
