The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has formed a committee to monitor the implementation of measures taken to ensure road safety.
Secretary to the PMO Sajjadul Hassan will head the 18-strong panel, reports BSS.
The committee could co-opt any member if necessary while the Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) of the PMO will give secretarial support to the committee, says the official order issued on Monday.
The other members of the committee are – executive director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), Additional Press Secretary of the PMO, Additional Secretaries (district and field administration) of the Cabinet Division, Ministry of Public Administration, Local Government Division, Roads and Highways Division, Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Public Safety Division, Ministry of Information, Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department, Chairmen of BRTA, BRTC and RAJUK, CEOs of Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation, Additional Police Commissioner (traffic) of DMP and Director General (admin) of PMO.
Under the terms of reference of the committee, the circular said the committee will monitor and supervise the implementation of the directives given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to ensure road safety and discipline on roads and highways.
The committee will also monitor and review the operations of determining the immediate tasks related to road safety identified by various agencies for improving the overall traffic management, monitoring the implementation of various short and mid-term plans undertaken by various agencies, supervising and monitoring the operations of formulating local-based work plan at different city corporations, towns and district level.
The committee will also coordinate the operations of various voluntary organizations like scouts, girls’ guide, Red Crescent for ensuring road safety, determining other issues relating to road safety and traffic management and thus monitoring their implementation progress, and any other matter to be considered by the committee.
