At least six people have been killed and 10 others injured as a truck overturned on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Tangail Sadar upazila.

The accident took place in the Kandila area around 6am on Saturday.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Elenga highway police outpost in-charge Kamal Hossain told that the truck laden with cement was heading towards the northern region from Dhaka and crashed into a road divider as its driver lost control over steering.

The injured were sent to Tangail General Hospital. Of them, three to four others were in critical condition, the police official said.

All the victims were returning home amid the risk of the coronavirus outbreak, he added.

Meanwhile, the government imposed a travel ban on all modes of transport – rail, road, air, and waterways – across the country to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
