Man with Covid-19 symptoms dies in Noakhali

NoakhaliA 24-year-old man who has been vomiting blood has died from high fever in Noakhali.

He died at a rented house in Town Hall area of Chowmuhani municipality under Begumganj upazila on Thursday (Mar 26).

The man was taken to Noakhali 250 Bed General Hospital at 8:30pm on Thursday where the doctor declared him dead.

Doctors suspect he might have been infected with Covid-19 and his samples have been sent to Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

Begumganj upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Ashim Kumar Das, quoting Medicine Specialist Abdul Auwal, said: “The man used to work as a dentist’s assistant. He was suffering from fever for the last seven days.”

He added: “He went to Medicine Specialist Abdul Auwal and was receiving treatment under his supervision. Yesterday [Thursday] he vomited blood several times and his family took him to Noakhali 250 Bed General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“Considering the current situation of the country they informed the civil surgeon.”

Dr Syed Mohiuddin Abdul Azim, the resident health officer of the general hospital said, the man was already dead before he was brought to the hospital.

Noakhali Civil Surgeon Md Mominur Rahman said: “According to the instructions provided by IEDCR, samples collected from the body has been sent to Dhaka this [Friday] morning.”

Begumganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahbub Alam said: “The building where the man used to live in Chowmuhani municipality has been quarantined under police protection.

“The dead body is being cremated and the people who will conduct the funeral have been instructed to stay in 14 days’ home quarantine afterwards.”
