Three killed in Gazipur, Gopalganj road accidents

Representational imageAt least three people have died and 10 others injured in road accidents in Gazipur and Gopalganj districts.

The accidents occurred on Saturday (Feb 15) morning.

In Gazipur, a young has been killed as a bus ran over him while he was trying to cross the streets at Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sreepur upazila of the district around 7:45am.

Quoting witnesses, Mawa highway police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Aiyub said: "He endured severe head injury due to the impact and was killed on the spot.

In another accident, a homeless person was killed at the Joinabazar area of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway as he was hit by a pickup truck and suffered injuries in his head.

Mawa highway police OC Manjurul Haque said: "He was killed on the spot.”

"We have sent both the bodies to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital for autopsy."

The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately, he added.

In Gopalganj, a man named Alim Mollah, 65, was killed and 10 others injured as a bus fell into a roadside after its driver lost control over the steering due to dense fog.

The accident took place near Dignagar bus stand of Muksudpur upazila on the Dhaka-Barisal highway around 7:30am on Saturday.

Faridpur Bhanga highway police OC Ataur Rahman said: "Alim, a passenger of the bus, died on the spot as the Kalna-bound bus veered off the road and plunged into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control of the wheel.”

"At least 10 other passengers were also injured in the accident," he added.
