The stage of a Hefazat-e-Islam organised event has collapsed with the radical Islamist group's chief Shah Ahmed Shafi and Secretary General Junaid Babunagari on it in Narayanganj.
The incident was reported from the central Eid congregation ground of the district's Fatullah Upazila around 5pm on Saturday (Feb 1), said local police OC Aslam Hossain.
OC Hossain said that Shafi took the stage a little before 4pm. Following the afternoon prayers, more people gathered on the podium. Moments later, the podium collapses with Shafi, Babunagari and other guests on it.
An LED screen broke and fell on several people but no one sustained critical injuries, he added.
The programme was closed with Shafi delivering the speeches in the evening.
