The incident took place in the Mantalia Puranpara area under Baharchara union of the upazila early on Friday (Jan 31), said RAB.

The deceased has been identified 30-year-old Abdul Nasir.

In-charge of CPC-2 Hoaikyang Camp, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shah Alam said: "Acting on a tip off, we conducted a drive in the area around 1:15am.

"Sensing our presence, a group of drug peddlers opened fire on RAB, forcing them to fire back."

Nasir was caught in the line of crossfiring while the others managed to flee the scene.

Later, he was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared him dead. His body was sent to Cox's Bazar General Hospital for autopsy, the ASP added.

Three members of RAB were injured in the shootout.

RAB also seized two firearms, five rounds of ammunition, 66,915 yaba tablets and Tk 3,000 cash from the spot.
