Due to the spread of coronavirus, Bangladesh is in a state of alertness; however, no hospital in Khulna has a system to detect coronavirus. Only a five bed isolation unit has been opened at the Khulna Medical College and General Hospital.
At Mongla port, an electronic billboard has been put up on 28 January, aimed at creating awareness about coronavirus. Director of Khulna Medical College Hospital, Dr ATM Morshed, said: “We have a five bed ward but do not have facilities for detection; in case of possible cases, patients have to be referred to Dhaka.”
In charge of the ward, Dr SM Kamal said: “A ward with five beds has been prepared by the gastrology department where the Dengue ward was in the past; an assistant registrar, one nurse and some persons were appointed.”
Coordinator of the hospital Dr Sujat Ahmed, said that usage of face masks has been made mandatory.
“If any patient shows symptoms then s/he will be sent to IEDCR in Mohakhali or Kurmitola General Hospital.
Health official of Torkha upazila Dr Rafid Shahriar said: “Leaflets about the virus have been made and they are being plastered at important spots.”
