Authorities in the southern Bagerhat are set to send back 63 Indian fishermen, who were detained last year for entering Bangladeshi waters.
On Wednesday (Jan 29), a court in Bagerhat acquitted them from tresspasing charges and handed over to the police for sending them back, said Mongla police OC Iqbal Bahar Chawdhury.
“The 63 Indian nationals entered Bangladesh waters with five fishing trawlers off the Sundarbans coast,” OC Bahar said.
“The navy and coast guards detained them in four separate incidents from Oct 2 last year and handed over to the police,” he said.
“They were given back their seized possession in presence of representatives from Indian High Commission and Bagerhat district administration,” he added.
According to Mongla police, the fishermen will be pushed back into India on around 2am on Wednesday during high tide.
