Nurul Islam DipuThe ruling Awami League’s youth front Jubo League brought out rallies in Gazipur over Nurul Islam Dipu, a death row convict in the killing of lawmaker Ahsanullah Master, being the Jatiya Party central committee joint secretary general.

Burning an effigy of Dipu, they demanded his removal from the post of joint secretary general. The protest rally was presided over by metropolitan Jubo League convener Kamrul Ahsan Sarkar Russell on Saturday (Jan 25).

During the rally an ultimatum was given that unless Dipu is removed from the post of secretary general within three days, all JP leaders and workers will face resistance in Gazipur.

Meanwhile, Dipu and other JP leaders and workers were declared persona non grata in Tongi.

On Friday (Jan 24) afternoon, irate people ransacked and set fire to Dipu’s house. Dipu, who served as JP’s international affairs secretary is currently hiding in Europe.

In 2004, BNP and JP workers and leaders were accused in the killing of Ahsanullah Master. Back then Dipu was the general secretary of the then Chahatra Samaj, the student wing of JP.

Ahsanullah Master was elected as a lawmaker twice from Gazipur-2 constituency in 1996 and 2001.
