A suspected thief has been lynched at Jashore’s Avaynagar Upazila.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Illias Sheikh, who was caught by locals after allegedly escaping with a stolen rickshaw-van.
“He [Illias] was lynched at the upazila’s Mathpara area early on Friday (Jan 24),” said Avaynagar police OC Md Tazul Islam.
“Illias is suspect of another theft case filed with Avaynagar police,” he added.
According to the locals, Illias and his accomplice stole a rickshaw-van of one Shukesh Das. Locals caught him at Mathpara area on the way of his escape. He was lynched at the scene while his accomplice managed to run away. Being informed, police recovered his body from the scene.
