Officials of the food department are accused of irregularities in allotment to millers entrusted with the collection of rice. It’s reported that due to connection or links, several allotments were given to one person.
Reportedly, officials of the food department gave allotment in exchange for huge bribes.
The most irregularities happened in Tarakanda Upazila, Mymensingh. In Kashiganj, Messrs. Ma Auto Rice Mill got six allotments. The rule that the same mill cannot be given allotment for Atap and boiled rice was flouted.
Since many millers were deprived due to unscrupulous practices, calls have been made for investigation by the ACC.
Owner of Ma Auto Rice Mills, Humayun Kabir, said: “I got more allotment because I have the right credentials and capacity and did not pay anyone to get the allotments.”
District administrator Mizanur Rahman, said: “The complaints will be probed and then measures taken.”
Form the district, target has been set to buy 27,609 tonnes of rice and so far 1,500 tonnes of paddy and 1,200 tonnes of rice were collected. The collection will run till Feb 28.
