‘Dinajpur upazila PIO hid bribe money inside travel bags’

ACC seized Tk 17.5 million from Dinajpur's upazila PIO on Thursday (Jan 9)The detained upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) in Dinazpur hid the bribe money inside four travel bags in his residence, says Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
Tajul Islam, PIO of the district's Parbatipur Upazila, was detained after the graft watchdog's Enforcement Unit raided his office and residence on Thursday (Jan 8) and sized Tk 17.5 million he allegedly took as bribe.
“Three travel bags with illegally acquired money were found under the bed with various spare files and documents,” ACC Deputy Director Abu Hena Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
On Thursday, ACC officials received a tip-off on the bribe money in possession of Tajul through the graft watchdog’s hotline 106.
After getting immediate permission from Dhaka headquarters, ACC Deputy Director Ashikur led a 45-minute drive, accompanied by an executive magistrate and a team of police.
“Tajul will be produced in court after filing first information report (FIR),” said Ashiqur.
According to locals, he joined Parbatipur office in January 2016 and his involvement in graft in various construction projects at the upazila is reportedly widely known.
