On Wednesday (Jan 1), Barguna's district and sessions judge's court fixed Jan 8 for witnesses to testify after framing charges against the suspects.

Along with Minni, the court indicted Raqibul Hasan Rifat Farazi, 23, Al Qayum alias Rabbi Akon, 21, Mohaiminul Islam, 19, Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy, 22, Md Hasan, 19, Md Musa 22, Rafiul Islam Rabbi, 20, Md Sagar, 19 and Kamrul Islam Saimun, 21.

The first seven suspects have been charged with murder while the rest have been accused of conspiring with and aiding the killers.

Out of the nine indicted, Musa who is on the run, will be tried as fugitive.

On Jun 26, Minni’s husband Rifat was attacked in broad daylight by a group of assailants wielding sharp weapons, in front of Barguna Government College, while she tried to save him.

He died later of excessive bleeding caused by the wounds sustained in the attack.

The video of the attack went viral on the internet, sparking outrage across the country and Rifat’s father Dulal Sharif filed a case at Barguna police station against 12 people.

The investigation took a new turn after Dulal accused Minni of playing a role in the killing.
