Hampering education through protests will not be tolerated, warned Education Minister Dipu Moni.
She made the remarks while addressing a ceremony for "National Textbook Festival" at Adhar Chandra Government High School in Dhaka's Savar on Wednesday (Jan 1).
“No one can wage movements by holding the students hostage,” she said before adding that under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s regime, demands are met without protests.
“If anyone has demands, they have to let the government know. If those are reasonable the government will take it into account,” she added.
The minister said that it’s the government was moving towards its goal of developing an educated generation through emphasis on technology.Another book distribution program was held at Dhaka University Central Play Ground, where State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Minister Md Zakir Hossen along with National Cricket Team player Shakib Al Hassan, handed over books to several primary school students.
The government began distributing around 353,144,554 free textbooks to more than 42 million primary and secondary level students across Bangladesh for the academic year 2020.
Previously, on Tuesday (Dec 31), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated free textbook distribution program for the academic year 2020 as the "National Textbook Festival" is set to be celebrated across the country.
She opened the distribution program by handing over books of primary and secondary levels to students at a function at her official Ganabhaban residence.
Dr Dipu Moni handed over a set of textbooks for the JSC and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) to the premier while State Minister for Primary and Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossen handed over another set of textbooks of Primary Education Completion (PEC) and Ebtedayee.
Distribution of free textbook started since 2010 at both primary and secondary levels in the country.
