Police recovered the baby from Shalak union’s Bokuli Begum on Friday (Dec 20).
Uzirpur Model police OC Ziaul Ahsan said that the baby has been kept in the custody of Union Council member Nurul Haque Sarder.
Nurul Haque said that Bokuli adopted the baby a month ago and she struck a deal of Tk 50,000 with one Shahinur Begum to sell the child.
He added that after the police was informed, they took both Bokuli and the baby to the police station.
Meanwhile, Bokuli claimed that her brother-in-law, who is childless, adopted the baby from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
She said that since her sister is currently living abroad, her brother-in-law asked her to look after the baby.
Police said that they are trying to track down the baby’s real parents and legal steps will be initiated over the matter.
