Ferry service at Paturia-Daulatdia route on the Padma river has resumed after being suspended for nine hours due to dense fog.
According to Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), the service had been halted around 10:30pm on Thursday (Dec 19) with subsequent stranding of four ferries loaded with vehicles and passengers in the mid-river. The service recommenced around 8am on Friday (Dec 20).
"From Thursday evening, thick fog slowed down the ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route. The fog intensified around 10pm, prompting the authorities to suspend the ferry services and plying of the water vessels in order to avert accidents,” said BIWTC Assistant Manager (business) Mohiuddin Russell.
More than 500 vehicles were waiting to cross the river since the suspension of ferry movement, he added.
