Police foil BNP Victory Day rally in Narayanganj, 6 held

NarayanganjPolice have arrested 6 leaders and activists of Narayanganj city unit BNP for reportedly assaulting two members of the law enforcers when they tried to block the party’s Victory Day rally in different areas on Monday (Dec 16).
The arrests were made around 12.30am on Tuesday (Dec 17) from Shimrail area in Siddhirganj, said police.
Naranyanganj Sadar police OC Asaduzzaman said, “Police obstructed a BNP rally for victory day when it reached Balaka Petrol Pump area in Chashara. Ignoring the police barriers, they assaulted Narayanganj police Sub Inspector Saiful Islam. In Rail Gate-2 area, Joynal Abedin, inspector (investigation) of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station, was assaulted by leaders and activists of the party as police attempted to obstruct another BNP parade.”
“To take control over the situation, police charged baton on them and rescued the two police officers. Later, police filed a case accusing some leaders and 400-500 other unidentified activists of the party for assaulting police members,” he said.
“Soon after the case was filed, police conducted raids in different areas of the city and arrested six leaders and activists of the party including its General Secretary Mamun Mahmud,” added the OC.
